Oh also the game just freezes on web
will there be a 32x bits ver
This game is a fantastic, but often frustrating adventure that keeps me coming back for more. Dare I say that AAA companies could learn a thing or two from this about how to make a game that players will keep on playing for years, without relying on dubious monetisation tactics such as loot boxes and content passes?
But if there's one thing I'd love to know, is how many upgrades are there in the game so far? I'm a games design student and I'm practising how to write a functionality specification. Right now, my document has an upgrades section containing 17 upgrades. How close am I to the total number?
Great game ! I arrived safely on my second attempt. The bell is a lifesaver !
What a nice take on this theme. Idea is original as well as gameplay, art is gorgeous for what it is, and even if the music was already made up, you’ve choosen so weel and it fit so nicely with the global atmosphere. You managed to absorb me during my playtime, that game was so involving. Just one word : Bravo !
Is there an ending or a way to win?
Game is cool and all but I really feel that this game is way too RNG based. Of course most roguelike games are but this one specifically heavily depends on RNG. So, is it possible to make the sextant a starting item? That way, players can unlock different items with the little time they have. Otherwise, this is a great game.
Unfortunately, our game is really not always winnable. I would say the problem is not randomness only, but "analogue" nature of a game, which is very, very unpredictable.
The Sextant is indeed one of the nicest upgrades out there, but you can actually win without it. For example, I myself often rely on a bell.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
Ok so I got the bell for the first time and it's absolutely OP. I mean I was swarmed by around 4 of those sharks and 2 giant piranhas and a megalodon and the bell instantly made the mobs swim away. Of course a fwe spawned afterwards but the bell makes harpooning useless and basically one-shots every fish in the game. I mean it felt like I was playing the game with cheats on.
I feel like the difficulty curve escalates very quickly. I had a run where I had a shark swarm, a megaladon, and three of the giant piranhas all swarming my ship at once. I was holding down my harpoon with the sharp upgrade the whole time but too many had latched on even will the stable hull and slippery hull upgrades. It's an addictive game, I'd just like it if maybe stuff like that didn't happen after just 3 checkpoints.
Edit: Try to get the sextant as early as possible. Ignore captain upgrades since the hull and tool upgrades are the only thing that really matter. Maybe the two helpers so you can focus more on the sextant upgrades
You have very good tactics here, very well! There are others, but all of them do not guarantee 100% success.
Another tip to make life easier: do not always kill the shark right away, because it can be used as a counterweight.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, we really appreciate it!
The counterweight is a good idea early game but it's also a risk later on as the aiming of the harpoon can be a little fickle. I noticed it sometimes misses if the creatures are moving very fast, making it harder to get hits on them early. Also, since it aims at the nearest creature, it can become a problem as it may mess up your shots. I've had many instances where I've sank because my harpoon hit the wrong target since it just happened to get closer in that small time frame. Maybe adding a different aiming mechanic or an upgrade allowing you to throw harpoons faster will help? I usually just get the skeleton helper anyway which means he'll end up shooting that counterweight down lol. I also feel like maybe the sextant should be disabled once you max out your upgrades, just so you don't end up wasting time. Or at least give an indicator that you maxed out.
Got there safe first run :D
I don't know if I just got the sextant too late to end up not finding anything with it, but I'm not sure how it was supposed to work compared to the buoys
Well, this is strange - the game has a strictly limited number of buoys and a lot more upgrades, so working on the sextant should definitely give a new upgrade. At least one or two.
Thank you for playing!
I LOVED THIS GAME! I like rogue-like games like this and the art of this game is amazing! I like the upgrades. The only problem I have is that the game becomes VERY VERY HARD too soon and I can't pass after a couple checkpoints. Maybe there could be permanent power-ups which we can buy with the gems we earn from each run.
I really would like to play an updated version of this game. Good work!
The game is unpredictable as the sea itself. >:0
It has two or three tactics, which can help to survive, but still there is chance to fail.
Meta upgrades is supercool thing, and we will definitly add it, if we will develop a game further.
Thank you for playing!
I have played the game again (I couldn't forget it) and I have finished the game! I wouldn't think that the end would be so near.
Now I get the importance of lowering the sails. In my first play, I couldn't understand when a storm started. I thought it was night. Maybe there could be more "windy" particle effects when a storm starts.
I would really love to play an endless version of this game with more upgrades. When you have sextant in the early-game and you lower your sails, you can get all the possible upgrades before the finish (I think maybe when there isn't 3 upgrades available, it won't show the upgrade UI anymore). The upgrades and the mechanics of the game is really satisfying to my liking. It could be adapted to a longer gameplay.
If the git repository of this project is public, I would like to have a look at it and contribute to it.
also there seems to be a limit to the amount of upgrades you can get
but it is a good game
Thank you!
Yes, there is a pretty hard limit.
you should make an endless mode
Maybe we will ;)
